Kumu Malia began her study of hula at the age of 7 years old on Maui.  In 2019 Kumu Malia ʻūniki as Hoʻopaʻa Laeoʻo (Hawaiian equivalent to Masterʻs degree in Oli). Then in 2021, after more than 30 years of study, Kumu Malia ʻūniki as a Kumu Hula (Master teacher/Phd of Hula) in an ʻailolo ceremony.    

 Kumu Malia is often recognized for being a former hula dancer for multiple Nā Hoku Hanohano award winning artists as well as for being a featured Hula cover model for many Hula calendars & Hula periodicals. Kumu Malia has also spent over 20 years as a professional Hula soloist in Waikīkī & on Maui. 

Kumu Malia instructs in the Hawaiian arts of Oli, Hula kahiko & Hula ʻauana. Her haumana love her beautiful, elegant & innovative Hula ʻauana choreography & her kind nature. :-)
